Interesting that a digital transformation strategy and goal can make cultural transformation easier. The digital project can be the "Trojan horse" leading to less resistance and suspicion.
Resistance to change is one of the biggest challenges to innovation whilst but there seems to be an acceptance that digital transformation is a necessity. It is replicating the private digitisation of life and therefore a natural progression.
That gives the organisation a chance to make the organisational, structural and cultural changes that are a critical basis of digital transformation.
It’s not that the cultural themes which managers professed to be important (or simply desperately wanted to push forward) were completely new. Some of these cultural themes will be familiar. What is important to recognise is that the digital journey presents a great opportunity for cultural work. Saying to an organisation that “we need to work on our culture” is difficult and can be off-putting. But introducing cultural redirections as part of a digital transformation can make these changes easier to swallow.
